Travel Policy
This plan will be reviewed by the Church Trustees on an annual basis to ensure that it is kept up-to-date.
Purpose of Plan
• To avoid traffic danger and inconvenience to the adjoining highways.
• To address the parking and transportation needs of our Church members, the wider Church community and to those members of the public who live near Lyndhurst Chapel building
• To ensure that car parking in and around the Chapel premises is used effectively, safely and with a minimum of disruption to local residents
Road Safety
• Please observe all the parking restrictions and traffic regulations when using the Chapel.
• Never park or wait on the double yellow lines outside the Chapel Never stop or wait on them to let children out of the car.
• Always take great care when crossing Lyndhurst Road on foot and when turning into or out of the car parks.
• Always park legally and considerately and keep noise to a minimum when using the Chapel
Cycling and Walking
• Cycling and walking are good for the environment and are excellent exercise and reduce our requirement for car parking places. These methods of travelling to Lyndhurst Chapel are to be used whenever possible
• Cycles may be stored at the rear of the Chapel building and may be secured in the spaces provided.
• Pushchairs, prams and wheelchairs may be stored in the Chapel and ramps are provided for easy access and egress.
Car Parking
• When using the building, the Chapel car park should be used as the first priority where space is available. Great care must be taken to ensure the safety of all users of the car park, especially those on foot and small children who may not be clearly visible to the car driver.
• The Medical centre car park is available to us and should be used as the next priority and all available parking spaces should be filled up. If appropriate. When all the spaces are occupied, cars may be parked outside of the bays if this is done safely and considerately.
• In the event that cars must be parked on the road it is most important that cars are parked safely and in a way that does not obstruct access to houses. All parking restrictions should be observed and the obstruction of road junctions or the bend outside the Chapel is to be avoided at all costs.
• The hatched area in the Chapel car park must be kept free of obstruction at all times as this ensures a safe turning point within the grounds of Lyndhurst Chapel. No car should reverse onto Lyndhurst Road at any time.
Disabled Parking
• The Disabled parking bays are for the use of those who are registered as disabled and who have been issued with a ‘blue badge’. The blue badge should be clearly displayed on the dashboard of the car when the disabled person is using the building.
• Additional disabled parking bays are also available in the medical Centre car park and there is one in Lyndhurst Road.
• Two entrances to the building are designed so that wheelchair access is possible without the need for ramps and full provision has been made for disabled toilets
Car Sharing
• Where possible we would ask all Church members to share cars when visiting the Chapel. The internal noticeboard may be used to offer or ask for lifts.
Public Transport
• Where appropriate, public transport should be used when visiting Lyndhurst Chapel and buses run from Erith Road and Mayplace Road and good railway links are available from Barnehurst Station. Please see www.tfl.gov.uk for more information.
